A 3-month traditional textile art course covering Kalamkari’s pen techniques, natural dye making, and two regional styles—Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam.
Kalamkari Painting Certificate Course (3 Months)
Kalamkari is a revered traditional Indian art form known for its exquisite hand-painted or block-printed cotton textiles. The term “Kalamkari” comes from the Persian words kalam (pen) and kari (craftsmanship), referring to the intricate drawing done with a hand-made pen formed using natural hair tied to bamboo or twig.
This course introduces learners to the two main styles of Kalamkari—Srikalahasti, which is freehand pen work based on mythology, and Machilipatnam, known for block printing with natural dyes. Throughout this 3-month program, students will engage in drawing exercises, fabric preparation, natural colour making, pen crafting, and full traditional artworks using both Kalamkari styles.
